Traceability – certainly when introduced in the context of compliance – is often seen as an
administrative burden and a cost factor. However, it also makes it possible to optimise logistics
processes, resulting in more resilient supply chains, improved service levels to the customer, more
effective marketing (stocks and sales forecasts) or cost reduction (lower insurance premiums).
Logistics service providers with experience in traceability and/or serialisation therefore have an
advantage, even in sectors where compliance does not yet apply.
